Hysterosalpingogram

HSG Test (hysterosalpingogram)

The HSG x-ray is a test we use to determine whether or not the fallopian tubes are open and healthy. For about 20% of patients the fallopian tubes are blocked on this test. In the old days we used to have to then go around the blocked tube by doing vitro fertilization which is a very expensive procedure. Here at FTC we have developed a new method that during the HSG test itself we can use a catheter type device to open a blocked tube. It is called a modified Novy catheter. It works about 70% of the time. During the x-ray we can get the fallopian tube open and save the patient from having to advance to an expensive in vitro fertilization procedure. Only a few doctors use the Novy catheter. A lot of doctors think if the tube is blocked they should go ahead and proceed with in vitro fertilization. Our philosophy is that if it is less expensive for the patient to do an inexpensive procedure to open the tube, we can avoid a procedure that costs upward of $12,000.
